WHEREAS:

New means of electronic communications have expanded the ability of the general public to inform themselves about AFSCME, the public service and the concerns of the union's membership; and

WHEREAS:

The battle for public opinion is important to the institutional concerns of AFSCME and its membership; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME has been the leader and the innovator within the labor movement in using the latest communications technologies and techniques on behalf of the membership; and

WHEREAS:

The general public receives much of its information about AFSCME through the electronic news media through new technologies and satellite transmission.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to use the AFSCME Labor News Network, an in-house TV and radio studio connected to stations around the country via satellite, to guarantee that the union's message is received by the electronic media; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME continue to explore new communications technologies such as the innovative Labor News Network a "workers voice" to tell AFSCME's side of the story.
