WHEREAS:

Political and grassroots legislative activity in large measure determines the climate in which the wages, hours and working conditions of public employees are negotiated; and

WHEREAS:

The current political climate created by the Reagan Administration has engendered concerted attacks on the rights of unionized workers in general and public employees in particular; and

WHEREAS:

The most effective way to combat these attacks and roll back these public policy shifts is to change the climate by removing from public office those who advocate positions harmful to the status of workers; and

WHEREAS:

To advance these efforts to elect persons sensitive to the needs of Labor, AFSCME needs a well-trained army of political volunteers.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME International continue to offer Political Action Training programs to councils and locals interested in such training; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That this 27th International Convention urges all AFSCME councils and locals that need to enhance the skill levels of their active political operatives to utilize the International's Political Action Training programs.
