WHEREAS:

The labor movement has made a significant contribution to the growth and prosperity of our nation; and

WHEREAS:

The labor movement was instrumental in the passage of legislation to promote and protect the welfare of the general public in such law as: Child Labor Laws, the Minimum Wage and Civil Rights; and

WHEREAS:

Many labor leaders and supporters were martyred in the fight to win the right to organize and bargain; and

WHEREAS:

These accomplishments and battles are glossed over or not even mentioned in elementary through high school history text books and/or curricula.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees promote and support local and state legislation that requires or includes labor history as an integral part of the curriculum.
