WHEREAS:
The Union Counselor Training Program of the National AFL-CIO has been of great help to thousands of trade unionists and their families in meeting their personal and family needs that are not met by the union contract; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME community activists have participated in this training by attending the series of lectures, discussions and problem-solving sessions; and
WHEREAS:
As a result of this training, these union counselors have been able to provide information and assistance to other union members by making community agency referrals and follow-through on matters of family relations, substance abuse, child welfare, health care, and other problems.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME urge all of its affiliates to participate in union counselor training programs available through the AFL-CIO state or central bodies; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME educate its affiliates in understanding that the Union Counselor Training Program can be an enhancement to in-place Employee Assistance Programs; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
That AFSCME applaud union members who selflessly serve their community and their unions through the Union Counselor Training Program.
