Election of AFSCME Leadership to AFL-CIO State and Local Central Body Leadership Positions

WHEREAS:

Much of American work has changed from the industrial sector to the service and public sectors; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME, with 1.1 million members, is the largest public sector union and the fastest growing union in the AFL-CIO; and

WHEREAS:

Leadership both on the national AFL-CIO Executive Council and in the state and local AFLCIO central bodies is influencing the direction and future of the American Labor Movement; and

WHEREAS:

Many AFSCME members are delegates to state and local AFL-CIO conventions, and are active participants on Central Body committees; and

WHEREAS:

Through AFSCME involvement in state and local Central Body activities, many AFSCME members are also in leadership positions in the Central Bodies.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That all AFSCME local unions and councils fully participate in state and local AFL-CIO Central Bodies; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME members continue to seek election to leadership positions in state and local AFL-CIO Central Bodies in order to influence the direction of policies at the state and local levels.
