WHEREAS:
Across the country, hundreds of organizations are addressing consumer issues that concern their communities, their states, and their nation. These issues include food and product safety, health of financial institutions, credit practices and utility prices; and
WHEREAS:
These issues touch the heart of consumers' health, safety and pocketbooks; and
WHEREAS:
These issues are also of critical concern to AFSCME members. Public employees are also concerned about their pocketbooks, their health, and product safety.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME express strong support for the goals and programs of the consumer movement: safe and effective products, accurate and informative advertising, a fair marketplace and a government willing and able to regulate in the public interest; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That this 30th International Convention encourage councils and locals to support consumer groups in their states and communities.
