WHEREAS:
The 1988 Presidential election was marked by campaign ads that played upon racial fears and stereotypes in order to divide American voters on racial lines; and
WHEREAS:
The 1992 Presidential election campaign already shows signs of more of the same, with David Duke on the ballot, Pat Buchanan contrasting English and "Zulu" immigrants, and George Bush promising he will do "whatever it takes" to win.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME condemns the Willie Horton-type politics of racial stereotyping, fears, and division and will oppose the election of any candidate, at any level of government, who stoops to race hatred campaigning.
