Support of Immigrants and Refugees to Join a Union

WHEREAS:

The United States is mainly comprised of immigrants and refugees from all around the world; and

WHEREAS:

Millions of people come into the United States each year looking for work; and

WHEREAS:

Immigrants and refugees who are without the protection of labor unions are exploited and abused; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME is a leader of the labor movement in the United States.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME actively lobby for and support legislation in the US Congress, state legislatures and local governmental bodies to ensure the rights of immigrants and refugees; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME work with the AFL-CIO to educate immigrants about the benefits of joining a union and being represented by a union.
