AFSCME-Supported Lawmakers To Strive To Keep America First

Boston, MA

WHEREAS:
The number of long-term unemployed continues to trend up; and

WHEREAS:
Construction employment continues to decline; and

WHEREAS:
U.S Department of Energy statistics show 79 percent of the $2.1 billion in stimulus money allocated for wind energy has been paid to foreign manufacturers; and

WHEREAS:
The American Wind Energy Association has said the U.S saw a drop in the number of wind turbine manufacturing jobs last year; and

WHEREAS: 
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company while denying oil exploration in Alaska or along the East and West Coasts; and

WHEREAS: 
Taxpayers dollars are going overseas while there are American companies and American workers that are unemployed or under-employed; and

WHEREAS: 
Every congressman has a huge staff who should read over every piece of legislation before advising for or against a bill.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: 
AFSCME-supported congressmen should be asked to require their staff members to scrutinize every piece of legislation to assure that whenever possible American tax dollars are used for American workers first; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: 
Candidates supported by AFSCME should be asked to tell the American taxpayers the reasons they voted to send money overseas when American workers are ready, willing and able to do the required task; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED: 
When considering support of a candidate, one of the questions asked by AFSCME should be about their commitment to always keep America first.
