WHEREAS:
The community of Clackamas County, Oregon, experienced the loss of 2 public servants’ lives in the winter of 2013-2014 to line of duty murder; and
WHEREAS:
Both public servants were dutifully performing their assigned tasks to ensure the well-being and safety of the public and communities they served; and
WHEREAS:
There was an extreme disparity between the resources made available to the two mourning families; and
WHEREAS:
The need to prepare for tragic incidents and line of duty deaths is before the event and not during the event; and
WHEREAS:
At the submission of this resolution the AFSCME International website Health and Safety section reported the following 11 members have died from injuries at the workplace since the last convention:

WHEREAS:
The founding ideals of the labor movement include an injury to one is an injury to all.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the International Union will, upon request, assist locals and members’ families who are struck by the tragedy of line of duty deaths by making available information and other appropriate resources that will aid in the planning of appropriate funeral and memorial assistance.
