Mike Yestramski is the current president of WFSE/AFSCME Council 28 and a member of Local 793. He graduated from McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, with a bachelor’s in sociology and from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in Baltimore with a master’s in social work, concentrating in clinical mental health. He also attended the Harvard University Trade Union Program in early 2020. Yestramski’s interest in unions began when he worked as a forensic social worker at Spring Grove Hospital in Catonsville, Maryland, and was searching for a way to improve the safety of his patients and colleagues. After a few years partnering with AFSCME Council 3 in Maryland, he moved to Seattle and began working as a psychiatric social worker at Western State Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. He has been involved in organizing campaigns in multiple states and has been very active with the AFSCME United We Heal campaign.
