Honoring AFSCME nurses during National Nurses Week

During National Nurses Week, which runs from May 6 to May 12, AFSCME President Lee Saunders vowed our union will always stand with AFSCME’s 60,000 nurses.

In a statement, Saunders said, “In a high-stakes work environment with little margin for error, they not only bring medical expertise, but they also have the bedside manner to help us through some of our most difficult, stressful moments. We cannot thank them enough.”

Saunders described the skills nurses bring to their work and what we must continue to do to ensure they are able to do their jobs to the best of their ability. 

“As front-line professionals, nurses know better than anyone what patients need to heal and what hospitals need to thrive,” said Saunders. “That is why we must ensure nurses have a protected voice on the job, so they can advocate for themselves and for a stronger health care system. We are incredibly proud that 60,000 nurses across the country have chosen to be members of AFSCME, and we stand with them in their continued fight for fair pay, safe staffing levels and better working conditions.”
